Mozambique

Mozambique is a southern African nation whose long Indian Ocean coastline is dotted with popular beaches like Tofo, as well as offshore marine parks.   • Mozambique (Beira) to Malawi (Blantyre & Lilongwe) Railway is the most important mode of transport for Malawi’s  imports and exports. A rail connection was constructed between Blantyre and Beira on the Indian Ocean in 1922 and the direct railway-line was opened in 1935. Beira was the only port in Mozambique through which Malawi’s rail traffic could pass for many years going through Sena Bridge on the Zambezi River. Unfortunately, the civil war in Mozambique disrupted the traditional trade routes and Malawi had to rely on longer routes . Now the road from the port of Beira to Malawi (blantyre) is the most common mode of transport for imports and exports. The average transit time is 6 days from Beira to Blantyre, but transport time is much more due to ques at check points and weighment bridges. In addition the port provides a transport link to the interior of Mozambique and to Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

  • Mozambique (Beira) to Zambia(Lusaka & Kitwe), Beira is connected to Lusaka and Kitwe. Beira Corridor have two main railway lines. The line linking Zimbabwe(Harare). The Sena line of the Beira railroad connects to the coal fields of Moatize with the potential to link to the railway of Malawi as well as to Zambia .

  • Mozambique (Beira) to Zimbabwe (Harare & Bulawayo). Beira is connected to Harare and Bulawayo . Beira  line connects to Mutare in Zimbabwe. The road haulage services perform reasonably well, but suffer from poor road conditions, which has existed since the major floods are 2002. Gross Vehicle Mass. Mozambique has now permitted the use of 7 axle, 56t combination trucks (interlinks), which can carry 32t of freight. The exception is the Tete bridge, where the load is restricted to 48t, until the new bridge is completed. Border Post. The border currently handles about 75 trucks per day in each direction, and is not considered to be severely congested. Truck transit times between Beira and Harare are about 2 days, with one day spent at the border.

Transit could take 10 to 12 days .Tanzania (Dar es salaam) to Zambia by Road. It runs between Dar-es-Salaam up to the Zambian and Malawian borders. Road transit average 12 to 15 days.
    • Tanzania(Dar es salaam) to Congo, The road connectivity is on Central Corridor connects the Port of Dar es Salaam  using road with the Lake services through to DRC.
    • Tanzania(Dar es salaam) to Malawi (Lilongwe , Blantyre) is a landlocked country bordering Tanzania on the North, Zambia on theWest and Mozambique on the South, East and part of the West of Malawi.     1. Kenya intra-country connectivity, Kenya Ports Authority owns and operates two Inland Container Depots (ICDs) in Nairobi and Kisumu. These dry ports are linked by rail with Mombasa Port and provide shippers with ‘dry port’ facilities
    2. Kenya(Mombasa) to Uganda, the preferred connectivity is  Mombasa  – Kampala by road due to  relative good quality  network and availability of social amenities en route. Transit time averages 10 days.     3. Kenya(Mombasa) to Rwanda, the main road network runs from Mombasa Sea Port through Kenya and Uganda to Kigali in Rwanda.
